Grand Erie District School Board is responsible for sharing stories and experiences. Collaboration and allyship was needed to hone in on the difficult topic at hand. Each individual we met was able to express their personal views to educate and assist our clients audience.
When clients approach us with a topic that can be challenging, they are understandably cautious about anything that could be perceived as negative. In this case, Grand Erie wanted to approach the subject with humility and vulnerability, sharing the stories of student’s experiences in their schools, and taking an honest look at where change needs to happen.
In this series of videos, we spoke with students, staff, and educators about their experiences with racism in Grand Erie schools. The objective was to encourage difficult conversations about racism, give a voice to those that may not otherwise have a platform, and provide a starting point for change within the school board.
Our team at Atomic Spark was honoured to collaborate with Dayo Media & Communications. Dayo Kefentse brought a deep understanding of how organizations address issues of racism. Combined with her experience as a journalist, she was able to make subjects feel comfortable in front of the camera and guide the necessary and challenging discussions about equity as this project came together.
