The Challenge

Red Bull wanted to highlight the design and development process of the competition’s final challenge through a series of blog-style videos.

Working with Dr. Scott Nicholson, Professor of Game Design and Development at Wilfrid Laurier University, we produced a series of short-form videos telling the story of how he and a team of students created the final challenge for the Red Bull Mind Gamers competition.

Our Approach

The videos were to give RBMG participants and followers a glimpse into the creation process, though secrecy around the actual game was very important. The primary audience for these videos are known to scrutinize online video frame by frame for any clues that may give them an edge up in the competition.In addition to the competition, the series highlighted the uniqueness of the Game Design program at Laurier as well as the opportunity and experience this provided to students.

The Results

Response was very positive from the Red Bull Mind Gamers and Red Bull Media House team… and no secrets leaked! The outcome was a series of six videos – each 60-90 seconds in length – along with six short teaser videos for social channels. These were released on Red Bull TV and social channels to worldwide audiences leading up to the competition
