What is that special something you need to add to your videos? Rant incoming. Sorry, this one gets me fired up. But in reality, this is a mistake I see marketing and comms people making time and again, and they should know better.
People. Your video needs to be about people.
I’ve been at this for over two decades, and during this time there’s been a seismic shift in how video is created and distributed. But a constant through all of this is that great videos are about people and their stories. Not just pretty graphics, stock footage, or pretty scenery. Though, they do help.
To be completely honest – and now that I’ve calmed down a bit – most clients do know this. Yet still, around 10% of the creative briefs to cross my desk are for videos that don’t include humans in one way or another. It’s a massive missed opportunity.
People in video can capture emotion, tug at your audiences heart strings, even add credibility to your brand or organization. See, there’s more reasons why it’s important to make your videos about people. Even having them tell the story would add value.
